A Tribute to Mrs. Diann (Scott) Simon
Through the course of time, children grow to become adults and at some point stop and think about the important people in their lives. Some of their reflections might include the following: Who was the person that helped me learn that success came from hard work? What individual, through their example, taught me how important it was to have a strong faith and believe in God? Who encouraged me to become a full member of my faith community by preparing me for First Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist? Who taught me that you don't give up, not ever, no matter how difficult the task is? There are countless numbers of children who, as adults, will answer enthusiastically, "Mrs. Simon!!" Mrs. Diann Simon was a teacher at Mitchell Catholic School for sixteen years. She continued serving her church, school and students until the time of her death at the age of 38 from cancer on September 1, 1999. A major strength that Diann displayed as a teacher was her complete dedication and belief in her Catholic faith. She imparted and cultivated that faith in every child she came in contact with. Because of her there will be a countless number of adults who in turn will impart and cultivate that same faith in their children and families. That is, and will continue to be, her legacy. As a tribute to her commitment to Catholic education, the Diann Simon Memorial Scholarship has been established. This perpetual fund will enable families to attend Mitchell Catholic Schools who may not have been able to due to financial restraints. Since only the interest from this scholarship will be used, families will benefit on a yearly basis because of the generosity of Diann's family, colleagues, friends and students. Our sincere wish and prayer is that her friends, family and students
will take comfort in the fact that, because of Diann, our Catholic faith
and school will remain a strong force in the lives of so many. Thank
you, Diann, and we will miss you. |
